Congratulations From Auckland

ISpecial to “Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day.

The Mayor (Sir Ernest Davis) read to members of the Auckland City Council at last night’s meeting a summary of the news bulletin referring to the naval engagements. Afterwards a congratulatory telegram was despatched by Sir Ernest to Commodore J. W. Rivett-Carnac, commanding the Squadron. It read; “At a meeting of the Auckland City Council last night, it was resolved that I should extend to you on behalf of the Auckland citizens, for transmission to the captains and ship’s company, hearty congratulations and appreciation of the gallant part played by , H.M.S. Achilles in the naval engagements off the coast of Uruguay.”
