Christmas Shopping
IT is good to hear that fears of a poor shopping season at Christmas time as a result of existing conditions throughout the world promise to prove unfounded. Business people report satisfactory trading so far and there is reason to expect a busy period between now and Christmas.
People are evidently adopting the advice to shop early. This is sound policy, for not only does it evidence consideration for those who serve behind the counters, but it gives buyers an opportunity to choose leisurely from larger stocks than are available during the rush of Christmas Eve, when a big proportion of the public usually try to do their buying of presents and necessities.
It is gratifying to know that the people of Whangarei, as well as those throughout Northland, are adopting the slogan “Business as usual.” This indicates that the spirit which has animated Britain in other days of strain is still strong and unshaken. While this continues there is no cause for alarm.
