With the school year drawing to a close, there has been plenty of activity at the Kaikohe School.

On Wednesday afternoon, cricket teams from the Kawakawa District High School visited Kaikohe, when annual matches were played.

The Kaikohe boys were successful in their match, defeating Kawakawa v by 36 runs on the first innings.

In the girls' match, Kawakawa secured a straight-out win on, both innings by a total of 33 runs. On Thursday afternoon the annual Parents’ Day was held, and a large number of people visited the school. An exhibition of drill and folk dancing was staged by the pupils, after which all • the infants were given a present by Santa Claus. School cooking competitions resulted as follows:—Plain scones, Peggy Jones 1, Joan McGregor 2; wholemeal scones, H. Brodie 1; pikelets, Pat Johnson 1, Joy Morgan. 2; cakes, Erica Brodie 1, Anne Johnson 2; shortbread, Esme Kennerley 1, Mabel Bower 2; biscuits, Betty Howse 1; boys' scone s ' competition, Peter Wallace 3, Emmett Sanders 2.
