Birthday Boy Lame

J Special to “Northern Advocate ”l AUCKLAND, This Day. After galloping a mile in 1.43 .3-5 on the middle grass at Takanini;.yesterday, Birthday Boy, one of the early, favourites for the Auckland Cup, developed lameness.. He was withdrawn from all en- ■ gagements at the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting at 2.5 p.m. ' Birthday Boy was also scratched at 4 p.m. for the Fatcrangi Handicap at the Waipa Racing Club’s meeting to be held tomorrow. A message from Hastings says there is a distinct possibility that Beaupatir will forego his engagement in; the Auckland Cup, as his owner, Mr. T. HU Lowry, would prefer him to contest the King’s Plate and the Clifford Plate and concentrate on the Wellington Cup, by which time Ire should be more seasoned than at present.
