Umawera School Sports

Great success, from all points of view, attended the annual picnic sports conducted by the committee of the Umawera public school, ,and held in Mr R. McLeod’s paddock on Friday.

Competition in all events was very keen, and close finishes were the order in the major events. Mr S. Rogers was starter, and Messrs L. Tribe, B. McDonald and Hibberd judges. , Organisers of the function, Mr and Mrs N. R. Smith, and members of the school committee, are to be congratulated on their efforts. Results: Boys. During the luncheon adjournment the certificates won by the children at the recent calf, lamb and sweet pea show conducted in the school grounds, were presented by Mr H. L. Mudgway, past chairman of the committee.

Shortly after the finish of the events in the afternoon excitement became intense when the gentleman of Yuletide arrived, and had a busy time distributing the gifts to all the young folks present.
