Russian Sub. Sinks Nazi Steamer
LONDON, December 13,
The British steamer Marwick Head (of 496 tons), struck a mine off the East Coast yesterday. Six of the 11 men comprising, the crew are missing.
The Berlin radio claims that : the British motor tanker, San Alberto (of 7397 tons), has been torpedoed, but does not say where and does not mention the fate of the crew.
A submarine, believed to be Russian, sank the German steamer Bolhein (of 3324 tons), in the Gulf of Bothnia, says a message from Stockholm. The captain and two of the crew were killed, and 29 survivors reached the shore in a lifeboat. Admiral Scheer’s Bad Luck.
The Rome radio to-day cryptically announced: “'The German pocket battleship Admiral Scheer, has been the victim of bad luck in the South Atlantic.”
The ■ “Daily Mail” says the British Admiralty knows nothing of bad luck overtaking the Admiral Scheer. Freighter Torpedoed.
A Copenhagen cable states that the Swedish tanker Algol (1566 tons) struck a mine in a German minefield between Trelleborg and Falsterbo. Swedish warships have gone to render assistance.
It is reported from Berlin that the British freighter Deptford (4034 tons), was torpedoed north of Bergen. Five of the 35 who made up the crew are believed to have been saved by Norwegian ships.
