False Teeth in Dredge’s Haul
“They are getting everything from false teeth to bars of iron and old tyres,” said the chairman of the Whangarei Harbour Board (Mr E. L. Whimp) at the monthly meeting of the l board today. He was commenting on the difficulties being experienced in dredging at the railway wharf. Dredging along the Herth at the wharf was being carried out over an area 100 ft wide and 25ft deep, reported the engineer (Mr W. M. Fraser). Progress, however, was. still slow owing to the big pump being jamiped with old chains,: bolts, timber, motor tyres, rope fenders and other obstacles.
A total of 600 cubic yards of mud had been dredged away and there remained a length of 60ft to bring the cut to the lower end of the wharf. The report' was adopted.
