Northern Wairoa Golf Club Raid Case

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] DARGAVILLE, This Day.

Alan W. Bird and Lawrence Peter Hackett, entered pleas of guilty in the Dargaville Magistrate’s Court to charges of selling liquor without a license.

This was the result of a recent raid on the Northern Wairoa Golf Club’s pavilion. Both men were convicted, but the question of penalty was adjourned by the magistrate.

Inspector J. Fox described how a young constable from Auckland attended a farewell function in the evening for a member of the club.

A bar had been erected in the pavilion and Bird and Hackett were engaged in selling drinks.
