Hangar Frame To Be Rebuilt
The steel framework of the hangar at the air force station at Harewood, which collapsed on Tuesday, will be completely 1 dismantled and rebuilt. The Minister for Public Works (Mr Semple), after inspecting the damaged building to-day, said the collapse was caused by an error made during the rigging of the steel spans which formed the roof, and full responsibilty had been accepted by the sub-contractors. The end bracings had not been delivered, but the company, in an endeavour to expedite the work, had gone ahead with the erection of the intermediate spans in the roof. Two guy ropes had parted, and the itrain thrown on one span caused its collapse. This span had brought down the remains with it. The greater portion of the steel would be shipped to Wellington and straightened. It was considered that the steel would not lose any of its stability In this process and that it could be again used. The damage was estimated at £ 1000.
