Stormtrooper’s Diary Of Polish Misery
A chilling picture of devastated Poland is painted in the diary of a Nazi stormtrooper, published in the Berlin Press. “Misery, poverty, starving people, cattle and horses are stalking the countryside,” wrote the stormtrooper. “Wind is howling over the marshes, the skies are grey. Corpses are piled in the gutters along the road. “In the ruins of a burnt-out village we saw Jews in their long caftans and black curls and beards searching in the debris for food. “Jewish women snipers were arrested here.
“These miserable beggars are starving now. They were impudent cowards.
“Yonder a house is still burning. Children are quarreling with two dogs over a morsel of food. “I cannot help feeling sorry for them. But they are vermin, and don’t deserve any pity.”
