ElectricityIn The Bay
According to a statement made to a special meeting of the Bay Hospital Board by the B.ay Power Board engineer (Mr Mandeno) electricity should be available in the district in the first week in December. As a result linesmen are working at “top” to attend to all the urgent requests to have the remaining business premises and private dwellings wired.
The Public Works Department is engaged with the erection of a substation on the Kaikohe-Ohaeawai road, about a mile from the town, and the foundation work is now nearing completion. At Opua the engineers are faced with the biggest problem so far as reticulating the North is concerned. To carry the power lines across the Bay harbour to Russell, two steel towers have to be erected. They are at present in course of erection. The tower on the Russell side of the harbour will be 140 feet when completed, and the other tower at Opua will be 82 feet high. These are expected to be finished in the near future.
