Sure We Won’t Shrink From Sacrifices.

“If we stick together, if we stick to the principles in which we believe, if we refuse to lower our standards, or let bitterness enter our hearts, then I am convinced we are bound to win through in the end.
In these words, the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand (Sir Harry Batterbee) concluded an address at a luncheon of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association yesterday on the subject of Empire defence.
Sir Harry , said that a long struggle entailing great sacrifices on the part of everyone lay ahead, but he was sure the people of New Zealand would not shrink from these sacrifices.
The decision of the New Zealand Government in the first week of war to raise a Special Force, and the subsequent decision to despatch the first contingent overseas, had greatly heartened the Mother in the midst of live trials she was now undergoing.
