French Patrol On German Territory
(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, November 29. A French scouting patrol on the Bitche Plateau, east of the Saar, advanced between one and two miles into Germany before encountering the enemy outposts. It is reported to have brought back highly valuable information. The German official news agency says: “Enemy artillery irregularly bombarded a hill south-west of Schnaaberg, and also the Castle Meinsberg district. “The German artillery was never at a loss for an answer. “The French, for the first time during the war, ■ tried to disturb the Palatinate Forest entrenchments.” Planes Over Paris. The Rome radio states that German reconnaissance aeroplanes penetrated to the south of France and also reached Paris, but were driven off. No bombs were dropped. The Berlin official news agency reports some artillery and reconnaissance activity and the capture of eight French soldiers at Grindorf. It states that the weather has halted aerial operations. The men of the British Expeditionary Force in France will have turkeys for their Christmas dinner. The War Office is considering how tin’s can be arranged, and also the provision of a full cigarette ration all the year round.
