WELLINGTON, This Day
A decision to postpone amendments to tne system of certifying; perennial ryegrass seed until after the 1939-4 C harvest was announced by the Minister of Agriculture yesterday. “It was recently decided to introduce certain amendments to the scheme of certification for perennial ryegrass seed,” Mr Lee Martin said. “Since then growers have pointed out the effect of introducing any amendment almost on the eve of harvesting, and have requested that their operations may be postponed for the coming season.
“I have therefore again reviewed the position, and, as a result, I am arranging that the amendments proposed will not be put into operation until after the 1939-40 harvest.
“Growers should bear in mind, however, that the amended regulations as previously decided upon will come into operation for all perennial ryegrass seed harvested after the 1939-40 season. “It is considered that the redrafted scheme will react ultimately to the benefit of seed growers and seed users alike, but in the meantime the decision to delay the introduction of the amendments have been made in the interests of those growers whose programme for the season has already been mapped out.”
