Calves, Lambs, Sweet Peas
The attendance of parents at the judging of the calves, lambs and sweet peas at the Umawera school on Friday evening last was most encouraging to the children.
The exhibits were of the very best, the animals reflecting, in their condition, the large amount of trouble taken with them by their youthful owners. Mr McKenzie, of Broadwood, judged the live stock and Mrs R. Harrison, the sweet peas.
Calves. —Rearing (light breeds), Desmond Tribe 1, Horace Ogle 2, Eric Ogle 3; ("heavy breeds), Bob Tribe 1. This was the only entry, but gained the highest score in the parade. Junior championship, Des. Tribe. Dairy type (light breeds), Desmond Tribe 1, Horace Ogle. 2, Stan Ogle 3; (heavy breeds). Bob Tribe (again the highest scorer, being equal with, in this section with brother Des). Children’s judging, Eric Ogle 1, Bob Ogle 2. Lambs: Marie Postlewaight 1, Alice Smith 2.
Sweet Peas: Light shades, Douglas Whittaker 1, George Woods 2, Stan Ogle 3. Dark shades, Douglas Whittaker 1, Stan Ogle 2, Horace Ogle 3. Mixture of blooms, Douglas Whittaker 1, Marie Postlewaight 2, Stan Ogle 3. Children’s judging, Jack Lees 1, Elva Rodgers 2, Trevor Little 3. MATA SCHOOL.
The .annual calf rearing at the Mata school was judged in , the Mata school ground by Mr R. S. Wiggins, of Broadwood. There were 15 entries in the section for calves. Results:
