Beef Declines At Westfield

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”l AUCKLAND, This Day.

At the Westfield fat stock sale yesterday beef declined about one shilling per 1001 b. Ewes and lambs showed a slight improvement, while in the pig section porker quotations were higher. There was a smaller yarding of sheep, a firm sale at late rates resulting for wethers, while ewes improved in price.

For an average yarding of calves a steady sale resulted, values remaining fully firm for prime sorts, although plain and unfinished calves were hard to dispose of.

There was a much improved market for porkers. Baconers sold to a fair inquiry, making to £4 4/, the same as last week. The baconer average was the same at 6d. to 6,1 d per lb, but porkers advanced a halfpenny, being quoted from 6;fd to 7,1 d per lb. Among the individual consignments a line of cattle from Mr T. N. Blake, Kaikohe, made to £7. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:— Sheep.—Extra prime heavy wethers, shorn, £1 5/ to £1 5/6; heavy shorn, £1 4/ to £1 4/9; medium shorn, £1 3/ to £1 3/9; light shorn, £ll/ to £1 2/6; plain and unfinished, shorn, 17/6 to £1; heavy prime young and maiden ewes, shorn, 19/ to £1 0/6; heavy prime owes, shorn, 17/6 to 18/6; lighter, shorn, 15/6 to 17/; plain and aged ewes, shorn, 10/6 to 15/. Lambs. —Heavy prime lambs, 24/ to 26/; medium, 22/6 to 23/6; lighter, 21/ to 22/; light, 19/ to 20/6; small and plain lambs, 17/ to 18/6.

Calves.—Runners, £4 10/ to £8 5/; heavy vealers, £5 10/ to £G 10/; medium, £4 0/ to £5 6/; light, £3 12/ to £4 4/; small, £2 16/ to £3 10/; smaller, £1 5/ to £2 8/; plain and unfinished, 18/ to £1 14/; bobby calves, 0 ' to 15/.

Pigs.—Heavy baconers, £4 to £4 4/; medium, £3 13/ to £3 18/; light, £3 6/ to £3 11/; heavy porkers, £2 16/ to £3; medium, £2 9/ to £2 14/; light, £2 4/ to £2 8/; small, £1 18/ to £2 2/; stores, £1 10/ to £1 16/; slips, £1 5/ to £1 10/; weaners. 16/ to £1 2/.
