Overtime—Owing to the pressure of the Government and civilian demand, most spinners are working full time ,and many overtime. New,business is restricted, because Bradford spinners are reluctant to accept further commitments during the’ current rationing period. Royalty.—The King and Queen, for the first time since the outbreak of war, went to a theatre. The visit surprised the audience, who cheered the Royal party for over two minutes.
Exercise.—The German Press reports that the Russian coastal batteries in Estonia controlling the entrance to the Gulf of Finland carried out their first practice. , ' Denial.—A denial of Nazi charges that he and other Czechs in London were fomenting revolution in Czechoslovakia was made by the former Czech Minister in London (M. Jan Masaryk). He said the opposite was true. Czechoslovakia was being advised to bide her time. All her efforts would be needed shortly. Welcome.—A civic welcome was given by the Lord Provost of Glasgow last night to Mr Peter Fraser, New Zealand representative to the conference of Empire Ministers. The New Zealand High Commissioner (Mr W. J. Jordan) attended.
Petrol.—Motor vehicles laid up in Rome on account of the petrol shortage will be allowed on the roads from November 28, although petrol supplies are limited to 6J gallons a month for cars and 22 gallons for motor-cycles.
Demand.—lt is reported that Germany is demanding that * Rumania should lower the value of Rumanian currency from the rate of 41 lei for the German Reichsmark to 56, otherwise all German firms trading with Rumania will raise their prices by 24 per cent.
