Miss Agnes W. Crawford, submatron of the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, has been appointed matron of the boys’ hostel at the Whangarei High School. The appointment was made last evening by the Board of Governors who accepted with regret the resignation of the matron (Miss A. Price) and expressed appreciation of her services. Miss Crawford will take up her duties at the hostel next January. The executive of the New Zealand Brass Bands Association has been advised from England of the acceptance of the post of adjudicator at the Centennial Brass Bands Contest, to be held at Wellington in February, by Mr Frank Wright, at present Director of Music for the London County Council and former conductor of the famous St. Hilda’s Band, England.
Mr H. C. Rishworth was re-elected chairman of the Whangarei High School Board of Governors at the monthly meeting of the board last evening. Mr G. A. Bethell was appointed vice-chairman.
The Foreign Office .at Tokio has announced that it is signing an agreement with Siam for a regular air service to Japan. This is indicative of efforts to replace the dominant British and French influence in Siam.
