Rain Continues, But Lighter Fail

Four days of rain have Whangarei’s total for that period to 4.44 inches, and for the month to 5.49 inches.

Last evening the rain eased considerably and for lengthy periods ceased altogether, although the sky remained overcast and threatening. Early this morning the rain commenced again and for the 24 hours to 9 a.m. today the gauge registered .46in. Occasional patches of blue, and one brief glimpse of the sun, promised an improvement but light showers have remained the order throughout the day.

Farmers and gardeners are now hoping for a stop. The farmers .are anxious to proceed with their haymaking, especially those with cut crops, while gardeners fear that too much, rain will bring blight to their potatoes and tomatoes .and brown rot' to their fruits.
