ALL ABOUT OUR HOLIDAY PLAN

Cfesistg ©ay Is ©rawing Measr and Big Effort TTEADQUARTERS IS FEELING VERY PLEASED THIS WEEK, AND' 11 WHO WOULDN’T WITH OUR FUND SWOLLEN BY NEARLY £9O TO A GRAND TOTAL OF £589/0/5. H.Q. thinks of £589 worth of happiness—nnc \ve*re sure all Kupe Club members do Loo. That £589 means UP. Young North lancers seeing Nee Zealand ? first Centennial Exhibition. To thorn it will mean much. ■ “They’ll talk about it for the rest of their lives," said Mr THorley, chairman of the Ngararatuuua School Committee, And Northlanders most certainly will.

There have been inquiries galore tnese last few weens, so perhaps it might be as well to briefly run over our scheme again, just to let people know what we are aiming at.

Organised by the Kupe Club, the scheme is to give Young Northlanders a week’s holiday in Wellington during January next. 'We will be leaving Whangarei about January 19. The cost of the trip is Exactly £5, this including return rail. food, and admission to the Exhibition, and other places. There will be no extra charges. Excursionists need have no pocket money, and yet join in everything plalined for us by Kiwi, of the Wellington “Dominion.” But most mothers and fathers will want their boys and girls to have a little pocket money. Too much money is not a good thing, and so we ask that no boy or. girl takes more than £1 pocket money to spend. Schools and Kupe Club hapus have raised pounds and pounds to send their representatives on this Kupe Club Centennial holiday. Each school or hapu is selecting its representative in the way it thinks best. Some are subsidising their members, so that mothers and fathers may give their sons or daughters the trip by paying only a portion of the £5. Guarantees. Apart from schools and clubs. Mothers and Fathers may ensure their children being taken on the trip if they

guarantee the necessary £5. All they must do is write in at once to Kupe. care of “Advocate” Office, Water Street, Whangarei, saying they will pay the £5. and asking that, their boy or girl’s name be immediately placed on the “guaranteed” list. We are asking that .all guarantee money be paid in as early as possible in December. We know that some will be waitingtor the 20th cheque; but. if all others get their money in quickly it will save H.Q. that last-minute rush.

Schools ax’e to have until the last day of the school year to send in their money. Naturally they should Jet us know the number of representatives they will be sending as soon as possible. Backblockers. When the fund closes on the last day of the school year, any money that does not make up a complete £5 in a school or club account will be automatically transferred to the Backblockers’ Fund. The Backblockers’ Fund is to take really hackblock Northlanders to see the Centennial. Backblockers will be selected by a special committee of school inspectors headed by Mr J. H. Dennehy. They will select backblockers who otherwise could not see the 'Centennial.

If you want all the money you have raised to be spent on your own represent.ati.ves, be sure that when the fund closes your account is divided exactly by £5. That is that it is £5, £lO, £ls, £2O, £25 or £3O. as the case may be. You will see that if you only have £4/5/ in your account when the fund closes, it will all go to the Backblockers. If you have £6/5/, then you will have paid for one of your own representatives and the £l/5/ that is over will go to the Backblockers.

You have from now until closing day to see that your money is made up to an exact £5.

About Your Friend

Many Northlanders have said: “Can I go in the same ‘ten’ as so-and-so; we’re friends.’’

Wherever possible we will put friends in the same group. Parents of all who make the trip are to be sent indemnity forms to sign. On these there is a place for the name of any friend yon wish to be grouped with. You know that there will be one teacher in charge of every ten Young Northlanders. You have read, too, that we are taking nurses with the party. No stone is being left unturned to ensure Young Northlanders being well looked after. We want our Centennial Holiday Scheme to be the best ever, and everyone is assisting. Speed up your efforts, Northlanders. and let our 1939 campaign close with a positive avalanche of contributions for our Centennial Holiday Fund. Today’s acknowledgments are a record, and a record, too, that has been contributed to by hard work.

Matapouri

There were thrills galore at Matapouvi, which placed itself third on the list with a profit on the evening of £27/15/2i. Actually there was another 10/- taken, but some expenses had to be paid. Well done, Matapouri! Well done, I say again, for Matapouri lias reached its objective, and has enough in hand to take every senior pupil of the school to see the Centennial Exhibition.

Matapouri, like Ararua, has shown what can be done in even a small district, if everyone pulls together. M.atapouri young Northlanders have pulled together. Grown-ups have splendidly followed suit, and the grand result is the achievement of the almost unachievable. Cheers for Matapouri! Ararua, Too. Ararua has added another £l3/9/11 to its total, keeping it still on top of our Holiday Ladder with a grand total of £7O. Like Matapouri, Ararua is not ,a big place; but Ararua can certainly gel results! With a contribution of £B/11/6. Hikurangi shows it is still on the workers’ list. At Ngararatunua. H.Q. had a very happy time at Ngararatunua. Young Northlanders there provided a concert, and by special arrangement Percy P. added Iris contribution to the entertainment.

It was the sort of evening we like. Everybody joined in the fun. Wo’l’i hear more about, it because some of our maidens have promised In write out a report. : : What interests us now is; that£s/3/ was added to our Holiday Fund, and it was announced tlu.il I here is still more to be collected from the effort. Keep it up, Ngararatunua!

Towai’s; “llartl-up

A "hard-up” ball—that apparently wasn't quite so hard-up as jl sounded —earned the Kowhal Hapu. Towat, £4/7/3, and brings their club total to £lO. It was a splendid effort, in which many people assisted. But you can read lor yourself what Kitty Allan has to say about it. With space restricted, it is impossible to go fully into our contributions this week. Enough to say that our ment list today breaks all ( "- !i 11 h j:j U;n i Let us work rs. Our big h isi ory!
