Munich Agreement Mentioned In Rothermere Case
(Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 10,
On the resumption of the hearing in which Princess Stefanie of Hohen-lohe-Waldenbourg is suing Viscount Rothermere for breach of contract, the Princess denied she was using Captain Weidemann, Hitler’s former aide-de-camp, to put pressure on Lord Rothermere to pay her a large sum. Sir William Jowitt, K.C., who appeared for Lord Rothermere, produced a letter from Captain Weidemann to Lord Rothermere, in which Captain Weidemann said the Px’incess had handed him a statement of her case, and also Lord Rothermere’s correspondence with Hitler. Made Munich Possible. The letter read: “You know the Fuehrer greatly appreciates the wox'k the Princess did in order to straighten out the relations of our countxhes. “It was her ground work that made the Munich agreement possible.” The Princess: That is true. Considered Claim Dishonest. The letter added that Captain Weidemann did rxot doubt that Hitler would help the Princess to re-estab-lish her pex-sonal honour and financial status because of his friendship with her. Sir William Jowitt said it would be easy for Lord Rothermere to pay all the lady desires, but considei-ed the claim dishonest, and, therefore, it was his duty to resist it. He never contracted to support her for life.
