Dividends Declared

London. — The directors of the P. and O. Steam Navigation Company announced a dividend on preferred stock of 2J per cent, and on deferred stock of 3 per cent., plus a cash bonus of U per cent., less tax. Sydney. Associated Newspapers. Ltd., reports a profit of £312,066, which is £15,000 above that of last year. The directors recommend a final dividend of 3 per cent., making an unchanged rate of 7 per cent, on both classes of capital. Wellington.—At the annual meeting of Sharland and Co., Ltd., held yesterday, the directors’ report and balance-sheet v/ere adopted, carrying the payment, of a further dividend of 2\ per cent, on both preference and ordinary shares, making 45 per cent, for the year, free of social security tax. Mr V. J. Lamer was re-elected to the directorate. Dunedin. —The directors of the Westport Coal Company, Ltd., report that the profits for the year ended September 30, after providing for bad and doubtful debts, depreciation and all charges, and making provision for £IOOO for the staff provident fund, amounts to £22,739, to which is added £13,552 brought in, making a total of £36,291. An interim dividend of Od a share was paid for the half-year ended March 31, absorbing £11,250, and leaving a baldnce to be dealt with of £25,041. Out of this the directors propose to pay a final dividend of 6d a share for the half-year ended September 30, requiring £11,250, and to carry forward £13,791.
