Australians Should Visit Exhibition, Says Sydney's Lord Mayor

The Lord Mayor of Sydney (Sir Norman Nock) is going back to Australia to urge that all Australians who can should come to Wellington this summer to see the Centennial Exhibition.
Sir Norman, who has been in New Zealand just over a week, flew to Wellington from Auckland yesterday, and left again by the limited express last night for Auckland en route to Sydney. When he was asked whether many Australians were likely to visit Wellington for the Exhibition. Sir Norman said there was just one thing that needed to be overcome. Safety on the Tasman. People should be encouraged to cross the Tasman Sea, even though war conditions obtained. It would be necessary during the voyage for certain precautions to be taken, but they did not prevent any inconvenience to passengers. As the war had gone on for over two months now, one should not have any fear of enemy activity in the Tasman. If there was any danger in that direction he thought it would have been manifest by now. “if every Australian who comes to New Zealand enjoys his visit as much as I have done mine, they will make travelling to the Dominion a regular event.’’ Sir Norman said.
Volunteers. —The Minister for War (Mr L. Hore-Beli'sha) announced that between 70,000 and 80,000 men have volunteered for the classes in which recruiting is open.
