[Per Press Association. Copyright ] WELLINGTON, This Day.

The Minister for Defence (Mr Jones) today denied a rumour that the Nev/ Zealand cruiser Achilles had been badly damaged in action with an enemy vessel. /

The Minister, made it clear than no infonrr-ticn cf that kind had been received by the Government. “I am surprised this rumour should have gained currency,” the Minister said. “I have received no message of that kind, and it is only reasonable to expect that the Government or myself would be the first to be advised if anything cf that kind had happened. ' “All I can say is that it is unfortunate that rumours of this kind should be spread.”
