Onerahi
At the annual meeting of the Onerahi Tennis Club, Mr F. C. Frogley, the president, read a report showing that the past year had been a very successful one in spite of the fact that the courts had had to be abandoned in February owing to the ground being within the aerodrome reserve. This had caused a certain amount of lack of interest, but now that the beautiful courts were completed, facing the waterfront, a la.x'ge nad enthusiastic membership was expected. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr A. F. Larcombe; secretary and treasurer, Miss Z. Frogley; committee, Mr and Mrs H. Stewart, Mr and Mrs J. D. Joass, Mr and Mrs Frogley, and Mr Jack Shipman; captain. Mr J. D. Joass; vice-captain, Mr A. J. Beasley. Mr A. F. Larcombe was elected delegate to the North Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. CENTENNIAL ACTIVITIES. A successful bring and buy afternoon and also a dance was held last week to augment the funds _of the Manaia Princess, Miss O. Bishell. For several weeks, 900 sheep and lambs have been grazing on the aero'drome, which has presented a very pleasing and rural picture. Three houses are in the process of being shifted from the north-eart side j of + h’3 aerodrome, to allow more levelling to be done. j The usual weekly card evening in aid of the school funds was held on Tuesday evening. Mrs R. Going won the prize. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs Gordon Prescott have taken up residence in their home on Beach Road.
Mrs Sweeney and her son, who spent a week with Mrs Sweeny’s sister, Mrs R. Going, have returned to Auckland.
During the school holidays, the Misses M. and J. Horn spent a week at Takapuna. Miss A. Burch has returned to Kaikotve after spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. D. Burch. Mr Jack Burch spent the school holidays at his home at Onerahi, before proceeding to Shannon to take up his duties there. Miss Marjorie Hodgson is holidaying in Auckland. Miss D. Lupton spent a week in Cnerahi as the guest of Mrs A. Cope. Mrs W. Lupton,' of Portland, paid her sister-in-law, Mrs Peter Mason, a short visit. Miss L. Stockdill, of Lawrence, Otago, spent a holiday with her grandparents, Mr and Mrs BurdettStuart.
Mrs Wilson, of Hamilton, was also the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs Burdett-Stuart. Women’s Institute.
The usual monthly meeting was held on September 6 with a gooct attendance. Mrs Franklin read ,a prayer for peace in place of the Creed. In the absence of Mrs E, Dyer (president), Mrs McLean (vice-presi-dent) took the meeting in a very able manner.
Mrs Armstrong (Whangarei) gave a very interesting talk on the “Early life of Samuel Marsden,” which was very much enjoyed. A competition by Mrs Bartlett gave Mrs R. Going the points. Items by Mrs S. Going and Mrs Cartwright were well received. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Cartwright, .Franklin, Riddle and Miss Rule.
