King Recognises Past Peace Efforts
(Received 12.30 p.m.) V. LONDON, September 6. His Majesty the King has sent a message to Mr Chamberlain, saying; “In spite of hopes and endeavours, we have been compelled to resort to war.
“In this grave crisis in the- country’s fortunes, however, I wish to recognise the unremitting efforts of the members of my Civil Service at Home and overseas through the troubled years behind, both in promoting peace and preparing the country for the emergency now confronting us. “Your work, which has earned the gratitude of your fellow citizens, will, I know be carried on in the same-spirit until peace is restored.”
