Fairburn School Jubilee

The jubilee celebrations in connection with the Fairburn school and district were concluded by the holding of a service in the Fairburn church on Sunday morning. The church was well filled, the service being of a united nature. Rev. Scarrow conducted the opening part of the service and gave an excellent children’s address. Mr Vasey, the local schoolmaster, read the lesson. Rev. H. Whitfield gave a very challenging address on religion and education, basing hi's remarks upon: “He spake as one having authority, and not as the scribes” (Matt. 7:2!) ). Master Sinclair Bobbet sahg a solo. Hymns suitable to the occasion were also sung. Mr Bruce Foster presided at the organ.

Rev. H, Whitfield invited all to stay to an appetising lunch, generously prepared by the Fairburn ladies. Most of the congregation accepted his invitation.

Afterwards everyone was asked to join in an open discussion on the subject preached at the morning servicereligion and education. After many well-known hymns had been sung heartily, and prayer offered, a very intelligent discussion followed, when many people availed themselves of the opportunity.
