Motor Spirit Restriction Regulations
[Special to "Northern Advocate ” 3 WELLINGTON, This Day.
Details of the restrictions imposed on the sale of motor spirit were received through the mail by vendors yesterday. Instructions have been given that until midnight on the second day after the gazetting of the Oil Fuel Regulations, unless an applicant had been given a license or notification, of refusal, he would be entitled to obtain nis supplies in a normal way.
Limit of Two Gallons
Until then, midnight on Wednesday, owners of private cars will not be supplied with mere than two gallons at a time.
The Postal Department, which is administering Hie regulations, states that the rationing scheme will come into full effect at midnight tomorrow, and until then the two-gallon allowance for private cars must only be given where it appears that circumstances warrant the supply. After midnight tomorrow supplies will not be given to owners of cars for private and pleasure purposes.
Ordinary Special Licenses
Licenses are divided into ordinary and special classes. Ordinary licenses are apparently being issued in the meantime for six months only, and are subject to • revision. Applicants for ordinary licenses must nominate one vendor only, who alone, will be entitled to issue petrol to the license-holder.
Special licenses are issued for periods pf not more than one month at a time to those who, for special business or other special reasons, are unable to obtain the whole of their supplies from one particular vendor. In the case of commercial travellers, for example, -who come under this category, applications for licenses must be accompanied by certificates frdm the employing' firm.
Essential Services
Provision is made for the issue of licenses to- ambulances, doctors, milk vendors, butchers, contractors, and others.
It is pointed out that as soon as it is known what supplies can be obtained from overseas to meet the essential needs of the Dominion some period ahead, the restrictions may be relaxed, of lifted altogether.
