U.S. Embassy in Warsaw Bombed
(Received 1.30 p.m.)
LONDON, September 3
The United States Ambassador to Poland, Mr Biddle, his wife and daughter, had a narrow escape when a German plane bombed their suburban villa. .
The United States Embassy said it appeared to have been a deliberate attack, since bombs were releasd on a low power dive. Mr Biddle was in jured, and the villh was partially unroofed, windows were smashed and an adjoining villa was destroyed.
The Associated Press of America states that Mr Biddle and his family were absent, when the attack occurred, but the wealth of detail given the press seems authentic.
The ambassador’s cabled report to Mr Roosevelt confirms the report of the United Press of America. Narrow Escape.
A bomb fragment shattered a wall midway between Mrs Biddle and her daughter. Another bomb landed directly in front of the villa but failed to explode. The family fled to Warsaw so hastily that they were forced to don part of their clothing in a motor, passing the night in the Embassy, since their city home is in the danger zone.
