Hokianga HerdTesting Association
There was only a small attendance of members at the eleventh annual general meeting of the Hokianga Group Herd Testing Association (Inc.), held in Kohukohu on August 30. Mr R. H. Harris, chairman of directors, presided.
In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman stated that, although the number of cows tested had decreased slightly, affairs generally were in a healthy state, a small profit being shown for the season. This was a tribute to the capable management of the association.
Bai?.nce-Sheet Analysed
The secretary, Mr G. Harding, explained several items in the balancesheet, and stated that although fewer cows had been under test, Wages had increased by £3l, and, as a consequence, the insurance premium was higher. The Dominion levy was also higher, but stamps and stationery had cost £7 less. Repairs and maintenance had risen to £59 as against £2O, but tin's was accounted for by the retinning of buckets (£27) and office additions, (£ls). These items were nonrecurring. Materials used were higher in price, but some of the purchases formed part of the stock-in-hand. Canvassing (£2l) was lower by £4O because the association had discontinued the use of a motor vehicle.
The import and balance-sheet was then adopted. Services Acknowledged.
Mr A. U. Day resigned his position as auditor. Members unanimously decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Day. Mr Day’s successor as secretary of the Hokianga Dairy Company, Ltd., is to be appointed auditor.
A letter of thanks is to be sent to the association’s late supervisor, Mr
G. Durney. After some discussion, the meeting adopted - unanimously the following motion, proposed by Mr G. Harding and seconded by Mr A. G, Fell: “That this association carry on as hitherto.” This was the outcome of a legal opinion given by a Wellington solicitor that it was not competent for the association to carry on without a license from the Dairy Board. The association, at its June meeting, had decided to remain outside the board’s new plan, and speakers at the annual meeting saw no reason for changing that decision.
Bright Prospects,
Mr Grounds moved a motion of thanks to the directors for the attention they had given to the affairs of the association. This was replied to by the chairman, Mr Harris, who said that prospects for the new season were distinctly bright. Already a satisfactory number had signed on, notwithstanding- the winter experienced.
Officers elected for the 1939-40 season were; Mr A. G. Fell (chairman), Messrs R. H. Hands, H. G. L. Gray and J. W. Julian.
