Bruised Bananas Blamed On Ship
[Per Press Association. Copyright.] WELLINGTON. Friday. Bananas arriving in New Zealand from Samoa were often bruised, said Mr W. J. Broadfoot (NationalEWaitomo) in the House of Representatives this morning. It would be better to ship them in bunches rather than in cases, he suggested. Experience had shown that cased fruit .arrived in better condition than otherwise, said the Acting 7 Minister of External Affairs. . - '<■- ■ ' "■ The cause of the trouble, contended Mr A. S. Richards (Government— Rcskill) was the unsuitability of the Maui Pomare for the carriage of fruit.
The Attorney-General (Mr Mason) said that, while the Maui Pomare was not altogether suitable, she landed her cargoes in good shape generally. It would not be economical to scrap her. Mr Richards: It might be cheaper in the long run.
