Bright Concert For Awanui Tennis Club

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] KAITAIA, This Day.

A concert and vaudeville entertainment was given in the A. and P. Hall, Kaitai.a, on Thursday evening in aid of the Avvanui Tennis Club and St. John’s Church.

Nearly all the performers were children, who had been trained by Mrs Glynan and Mrs Stitt. The attendance was good and keen appreciation was shown for the different items.

Varied Programme,

The introductory items,, “How Do You Do.” and “Jolly Good Company,” were sung by girls who appeared successively in groups of four. A song was given by Mrs H. Rule and a trombone solo by Mr Cousins after which Miss Dawn Rule sang with a supporting ballet, “I Love to Whistle.” Miss Tulloch and Mr Maxwell carried the programme on with a dialogue followed by the song, “Will You Marry Me,” by Misses Norma Subritzky and Elvin Waring.

Mr Parker contributed one of his popular numbers after which the young people again took the stage with “Santa Claus” sung by the Misses Devich (2), Norma Subritzky and Dawn Rule, and then came a song by Mrs Gunson. Other items were: “Little Sir Echo,” by Mrs H. Rule and Miss Dawn Rule; Hawaiian number by a group of 14 girls; “Hiking.” Miss Larkins and company; violin solo, Mr Harold Timbers; tap dance, Miss Joey Smith; song, Mr Maxwell; “Teddy Bear’s Picnic,” group of girls; poi dance. Miss Larkins; “Ten Pretty Girls.” Miss Thelma Geard and ballet; “Suzanne,” Miss Joyce Christensen; duet, Mesdames Rule and Gunson; Dutch clog dance, Misses Geard and Saunders; recitation, Miss Tulloch; camp scene, by girls dressed as cowboys; “Smile When You Say Good-bye.” I the company. At the conclusion the organisers of the entertainment and the performers were thanked by the Rev. Taylor.
