The outstanding feature of the series of county cricket matches which began on Wednesday was Hedley Verity’s seven wickets for nine runs for Yorkshire against Sussex, in the benefit arranged for J. H. Parks at Hove.

The game at the Oval between Surrey and Lancashire was abandoned owing to the crisis, although the London county took first innings points Two of the three matches arranged for 'September 2,. 4 and 3 have been abandoned: Middlesex v. Kent, al Lord’s; and Yorkshire v. M.C.C., at Scarborough. Yorkshire has won the championship for the third consecutive season, and the seventh time since 1931 — Lancashire was the 1934 victor and Derby was successful in 1930.
