A fatal accident occurred at Kaeo, Whangaroa, at 10.15 a.m. on Thursday, when Beverley Briar Rangi, aged two years nine months, was struck by a motor-truck.

The girl was playing near the entrance to the Whangaroa County Council’s metal dump at Kaeo when a truck, di’iven by Maid Buselich, backed into the quarry, knocking her down.

She was seriously injured, and conveyed to the Whangaroa Public Hospital by the medical superintendent, Dr. F. N. Sharpe, but died on Thursday evening.

The inquest was opened on Friday morning in the Kaeo Court, before Mr H. Costar, district coroner, and, after evidence of identification had been given, was adjourned sine die, in order that police inquiries might be made.
