Store Staff Pledges Support
This morning the staff of the Bargain Store w.as called together by the Managing-Director, Mr R. T. Tudehope, who addressed them concerning the existing state of turmoil. Mr Tlidehope stressed the need for each, from the youngest junior up, having in mind the idea of being prepared at any time to render whatever service was necessary. So far as the work in the store was concerned each must be prepared to accept higher duties in the event of their seniors being called to the colours. Girls For Men’s Work, During the last war girls had undertaken men’s work, and there was every possibility that this would be done again in the interests of the nation. The Mayor, Mr W. Jones, in a brief address, said Britain’s success in the past had been due to her steadiness of purpose and the willingness and ability of each one to take up any service. Lady, 64, Offers Service. In that connection his phone had been ringing since 11 o’clock last night. As one instance he had an offer of service from a lady 64 years of age. By resolution, the staff pledged itself unanimously to assist in every i way possible.
