“Advocate” Staff Members At Play
The rush and bustle of newspaper production was again forgotten for a few hours by members of the “Northern Advocate” staff and their friends on Thursday night, when another of the popular series of socials organised by the “Advocate Welfare Club” took place in the Friendly Societies’ Hall. Arrangements for the evening were in the hands of the literary department, and Mr J. A. Inkster was M.C.
A novel feature of the programme was a moving picture of the various phases of the production and distribution of the “Advocate,” in which the members of the staff were able to see themselves as others see them. Competitions of various descriptions, dancing and an-indoor hockey match between the different departments of the office, made the time pass in merry fashion. Prizes were presented by Mrs H. W. Crawford to the winners of competitions as follows: Musical, Mr M. Stewart; advertising, Miss June McLean and Mr S. Ward; newspaper, Mr B. W. Crawford; Monte Carlo waltz, Mrs B. W. Crawford and Mr K. Crawford. Mr J. S. Mannering presided at the piano during the evening, and at the conclusion of the social he was accorded musical honours.
