Waipu

In connection with the campaign to raise funds for the Princess representing the Waipu riding, a basket social was held in the Waipu Public Hall on Thursday night. Quite a collection of prettily decorated baskets, offered at auction, brought in a very satisfactory amount. Mr W. Whitmore, of Whangarci, gave his services free as auctioneer for the basket sale.

Dancing to orchestral music was indulged in by a considerable number. Extras were played by Messrs. A. Higham and J. Durham. Messrs. G. McLean and V. Tcbbutt acted as M.C.’s. As a result of the evening’s effort, £lO was added to the general fund. A social and dance was held at Mr Dingle’s, Waipu Cove, on Saturday night, the proceeds from which, amounting to £4, were handed over to the Waipu Centennial funds. A party consisting of Messrs. S. Gribble. E. Dennis, G. Larking, and G. Wilding, of Whangarei, contributed very considerably to the evening’s enjoyment.
