FOLLOWING AN INVITATION. from the Air Ministry to build a larg e, fast airliner capable of flying non-stop to any European capital, the Fairey Aviation Company has designed a four-engined sub-stratosphere plane of 19 tons, with a maximum speed of 275 m.p.h. fully loaded, and with an air-conditioned cabin. This picture, taken on July 6, shows the “mock-up” (a full-size model of wood and brown paper) of the new airliner FCI at the Fairey Aviation Factory at Hayes, Middlesex.
