L. W. Franks Wins Northland Amateur Golf Title at Kaikohe
KAIKOHE, This Day. jp LAYING UNDER SHOCKING WEATHER CONDITIONS, L. W. FRANK, OF KAIKOHE, NEVERTHELESS RETURNED A GOOD CARD TO WIN THE NORTHLAND AMATEUR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYED ON THE KAIKOHE LINKS ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
Only seven out of the 43 players to take part in the contest on Saturday finished on Sunday, when exceptionally heavy rain fell throughout the day, making the greens and fairways rather treacherous.
E. Baker was runner-up, winning on a toss from E. Worker
Flaying steadily despite the downpour, Frank returned excellent rounds on Sunday, when any score would have been pardonable, but his card of 85, 81, 88, 85 —339 showed consistency.
E. Baker returned the beat score over 18 holes, with an excellent 80, and the eclectic handicap, held on Sunday morning, was won by A. Barrett and K. Robinson, runner-up. Supplementary Competitions.
The 18-hole medal match played on Saturday morning resulted in a win for K. Robinson, of Okaihau, who won on a count back from C. Robinson, Rawene.
A Rawene player, FI. Anderson, won the 18-hole bogey match held on Saturday afternoon from K. Robinson, 3 up. C. Wells, of Okaihau, was victorious m the Stableford bogey handicap played on Sunday morning, the runner-up being K. Robinson, and on Sunday afternoon Robinson won the medal handicap from T. Cross, with a 71 net.
The seven cards returned in the championship event are as follows: L. Frank, 85, 81, 88, 85—339; E. Baker, 80, 90, 89, 84—343; E. H. Worker, 84, 87, 90, 82—343; W. Christiansen, 86, 82, 87, 90—345; A. Burnett, 84. 91, 86, 86—347; G. Lindsay, 90, 83, 90, 92—355; W. Rollings, 90, 94, 96, 96—376. Maungatapere won the teams’ match, Okaihau being runners-up.
