Thetis Lifting Unsuccessful

LONDON. July 22,

The Admiralty announces that an attempt to lift the sunken/ submarine Thetis yesterday was unsuccessful. Two lifting bulks of the Zelo collapsed when she began towing to the shore. The operations have been temporarily suspended. The attempt was made at low tide in the evening. It was hoped that the vessel would be raised in a cradle of eight wires and brought nearer to the beach. It was estimated that ten lifts would be necessary to move the submarine into shallow water.
