Port Bowen Position Unchanged
[Special to "Northern Advocate"l WANGANUI, This Day.
The Port Line steamer Port Bowen is in practically the same position as when she first grounded last Wednesday morning.
With two tugs working op Saturday afteroon it was decided to call a diver vessel was moving slightly, and hopes have been raised that if the conditions remain favourable the vessel will be got off.
There will be a spring tide at the end of July, and they .will continue for some days into August. Tug Put Out of Action.
One of the tugs, the Toia, had its propeller fouled when a hawser was hurled by a large wave on to the stern of the tug. The Toia had to be towed to port, and the crew worked long hours to free the propeller.
They did not succeed, and yesterday afternoon, it was obvious that the from New Plymouth to undertake the work.
Although there was heavy rain yesterday, Castlecliff was visited by more than 4000 people to see the stranded liner. The city council ran a special service to the beach, and th's was eagerly availed of. The Lyttelton Harbour Board’s new tug, Lyttelton 11. was despatched yesterday afternoon under a towing hire to the Port Line.
