After a trial match had been played at Moerewa on Saturday, between junior teams from the Western and Eastern zones of the Bay area, the following team was selected to represent Bay of Islands in the Brake Shield challenge with Whangaroi on Saturday week: — Full-back; Penney (Okaihau). Three-quarters: Munro (Ohaeawai), Donnelly (Kaikohe). Polwart (Taumarere).

Five-eighths; Dalton and Smith (Kaikohe). Half-back: Hobbs (Maromaku). Forwards: Cross (Taumarere), Wynard. Heta. Green. Dixon (Okaihau), Young. Rogers. Williams, Tana Kowhia (Kaikohe). T. Tapene, D. Wynard and English (Moerewa). Western zone won by 17 points to nil, a feature of the scoring being that all the points were obtained by Kaikohe club players. The game produced excellent football at periods, and frequent changes were made in the two teams. Individual players to impress were Smith, Donnelly. Young, Dalton and Yorke. who obtained a try apiece. Smith converted one. No doubt the game would have ooen livelier had it not boon for the fact that a number of players who would normally have taken part were away in military camps, but they were considered when the team was being selected.
