Enthusiasm At Calf Club Group Meeting

With aii attendance from as far 'afield as Waikiokie and Houto, exceptional enthusiasm was displayed at the annual meeting of the Whangarei Calf Club Group on Friday night. The president, Mr V. Taylor, reported a successful year. Calves had improved greatly in quality, and he particularly commented on the greater skill shown by calf club members in rearing their calves.

The new season commences with a substantial credit balance. Secretary Resigns. Because his new duties as Centennial Organiser prevent him from his calf club duties, Mr K. Hayr ~ tendered his resignation from the secretaryship of the group. This was accepted with sincere regret. A letter of thanks to Mr Hayr for his services is to be forwarded. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Dr. G. Walker; president, Mr V. Taylor; vice-president, Mr H. Parkin; secretary 'and treasurer, Mr C. S. Going; executive, Messrs C. Smith, G. Russell, W. G. Birdling, K. Stevens. / Alteration To Rules. Alterations to rules included a decision that cups won twice in succession or three times at intervals become the property of the winner. A new class is being instituted for post-primary children under the age of 18 years.

Judges in future will be empowered to penalise calves up to 10 points for over-condition. It was stressed that all money raised through the sale of membership tickets in a district will be used as a subsidy for transport and ribbons in that district.

Fatal Accident.— The chief engineer, Mr M. J. Macaulay, at the Golden Bay Cement Company's works at Tarakohc, Nelson, died in hospital from injuries suffered when he was struck by a crane at the works. Mr Macaulay leaves three daughters and one son.
