Results:— Glenmore Maiden Race, of 100 sovs; five furlongs.—(2) Kaiwaka, 8.10, 1; (4) Sir Crusoe, 8.5, 2; (14) Race Away, 8.5, 3. All started. Two lengths; three lengths. Time: 1.4 4-5. Mr Adrian Seligman, formerly master of the barquentine Cap Pilar, which visited Auckland in 1937 on a world cruise, has been appointed second officer of the new Royal research vessel Research, which is now fitting out at Dartmouth. c The New Zealand bowling party in Australia defeated the Maroochydree Club today by 79 points to 54. The visitors fared .as follows: Weatherburn, 29—12; Adess, 28—22; Fletcher, 22—20. * * * It is pointed out at White House that the invitation to the Refugees’ Committee to meet there was extended at the committee’s . request, says the Washington correspondent of the “New York Times.” It was felt that it would afford the President an opportunity to signalise his intense interest in German refugees and the efforts being made to find homes for them.
