Town Tit-Bits

bulletin for this week consists of some busy doings. On Friday a very happy crowd of young folk attended a farewell dance given in honour of Mr Felix Taltersfield, who leaves shortly for Wellington. Interested in many ot the sporting clubs of the town and being one of the most popular of our bachelors, it is not surprising that so many friends gathered together to wish him “all the best.” Some of those there were Mrs W. L. Booth, Mrs Dick Macklow, Mrs Ron Masters. Mrs W. C Ccote, Mrs H. L. Younger. Mrs Bill Reynolds, Mrs Martin, Mrs Dick Morgan, Mrs N. Le Roy, Misses Vera Campbell, Thelma Smith, Ciivena Young, Nancy Booth, Norma Storey, Zita McCuskey, Mary Evans, Moya Simmons, Lillian Ventry-Smith, Lorraine Anderson, Olga Morland, Gwen Scott-Baker, Zoo and Nell Ward, Patricia Ryder, Nola Maxwell. Mary Grave, Zoc Phillips, Barbara Walker, Margaret Chambers, Lyn Homus, Alaska Lloyd.

Duplicate contract bridge was a pleasant change at the home of Mrs Guy N. Morris last week, when she entertained a number of friends. Bowls of autumn tinted leaves and berries were attractively arranged in the drawing room and the hostess received her guests wearing a van dyke brown satin beauto frock. Some of the players were Mrs Spencer Day, Mrs D. O'Donoghuo, Mrs W. H. Millington, Mrs A. H. Crane, Mrs Roland Harrison, Mrs A. M. Long, Mrs J. Woolley, Mrs T., Stewart, Mrs M. L. Staple, Mrs H. N. Geissler, Mrs D. M. Beere, Mrs J. G. Campbell, Mrs Garnet Keene, Mrs R. Laurie, Mrs G. W. Bennett, Mrs R. K. Trimmer.

Mrs Zohrab, senr., of Wellington, who has been visiting her daughter-in-law, Mrs A, C. Zohrab, has been the guest of honour at numerous parties. Mrs A. H. Crane, of Ngararatunua, invited a number of friends out for tea and a chat on Friday afternoon, while Mrs J. G. Campbell hostessed a morning tea party at her home on Thursday. Some of the guests at these parties were Mrs George Woolley, Mrs J. A. Inkster, Mrs R. S. Finch, Mrs A. J. Walker, Mrs Reg Kay, Mrs Guy N. Morris, Mrs Cecil C. Tills, and Miss O’Hara-Smith (Wellington). Afternoon tea was arranged by Miss Myra Sword on Tuesday last for her sister, Mrs Keith Bedlington, who leaves early next month for her home in the Malay States. Bowls of pink manuka looked very attractive in the drawing room and lounge, where Miss Sword, assisted by her mother, Mrs W. Sword, received the guests, among whom were Mrs Gordon Robertson, Mrs Spencer Day, Mrs L. J. Waddell, Mrs John G. Robertson, Mrs A. M. Hart, Mrs A. H. Crane, Mrs W. A. Christiansen, Mrs Clayton Thorne, Mrs Bruce Marshall and Miss Doreen Stone.

One of the brightest events of this season was the ball in the town hall given by the Professions Queen Committee for their queen, Miss “Teddy” Searle.

There was a delightful air of gaiety about the whole affair. The hall looked festive with masses of blue and gold streamers-, while, in the supper room bowls of poppies were arranged on the long tables with charming effect.
