Another Frontier Incident

(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 20. The German News Agency reports that a Danzig Customs official shot and wounded a Polish border guard, near Postelau. It is alleged that the Pole was standing on Polish territory and fired without warning, at which the Danziger fired in self-defence. The shooting has suddenly increased tension. The Danzig Senate apologised to Poland, where the incident is regarded as an inexcusable provocation. A Warsaw message says that the Danzig police arrested a Polish army officer, Colonel Sobocinski. He was released later. It is alleged that he contravened a prohibition against navigating in a military area.
