McCready Beats Clark By Two Falls

Wrestling

Jim “Dazzler'’ Clark failed to dazzle Earl McCready in the professional wrestling bout in the Whangarei Town Hall last evening, and. although the British Empire champion was not in his best form, he had no difficulty in winning by two falls, the first a penalty. A capacity house seemed to find

plenty of enjoyment, although nothing of a particularly exciting nature was served up. The experts in the bleachers demonstrated their alleged know-

ledge when they believed they saw

j more than was there, the number of j supposed strangles, for instance, being sufficient to end the bout a dozen times over. The performers, however, seemed little inconvenienced, and resorted to other methods, which inflamed the tempers of the more enthusiastic. McCrcady, whose weight was given at 17st. 21bs., looked to have a greater advantage than the announced lOlbs. over Clark, and as the bout progressed it became obvious that there waj J little chance of McCready even losing a fall.

Clark Aggressive. A wrisllock and a headlock opened the bout, Clark being the aggressor, but McCready countered with a hammerlock. Later, the positions were reversed, Clark working with a hammerlock on his opponent’s bandaged left elbow at the gong, when he was warned for using a rabbit-punch. Clark opened the second session with a couple of elbow jolts, the attack ending when McCready jumped to secure a head scissors, which he held for a long time. Clark used the ropes in an effort to break free, and when the referee, Mr J. Webb, endeavoured to intervene, he was drawn into the fray. However, be succeeded in separating the opponents, and McCready used a swivel-wristlock to bring Clark down, only to fall into a series of headlocks. Clark Penalised. The third round did not last long. After a short spell on the mat, the pair entangled under the ropes, and when the referee broke them up Clark had much to say, so much that he disputed having to carry the fray to McCready, and he succeeded in talking himself into a penalty fall. Each secured a toehold at the start of round four, McCready winning out with his. Clark broke, only to fall into a rocking-chair splits. A wrisllock ‘ broke the combination, and Clark came out with an Indian deathlock. McCready raised himself up at arm’s length to resist the hold, and succeeded in upsetting Clark, who fell into a lying splits. Clark came out with a figure-four scissors on McCready's legs, which were barred, the mix-up of feet and legs ending under the ropes.

Opening the fifth round, McCready countered a body scissors with a toehold, which Clark countered with an arm-stretch. McCready turned this into a standing splits. Little of further incident occurred, McCready holding the advantage with a leg-lock.

Clark opened the sixth sessioif with a short-arm scissors on McCready’s left arm, and worked with his free hand on the bandaged elbow. McCready broke the hold, and an exchange of elbow jolts followed. McCready had the last say, and he followed his delivery by two slams and a press, which gave him the second fall. Amateur Preliminaries. G. P'airama, 9st. lOlbs., and O. Farnham, 9st. 61bs., gave a fast, willing exhibition over three rounds, in which neither could score a fall, the referee, Mr N. Johnson, declaring a draw. Mari Heke (Kaikohe), lOst. lOlbs., carried too many guns for N. Boyd (Whangarei), list, lib., winning by two straight falls, each secured with a reverse full-Nelson. G. Maunsell (Kaikohe), list. Gibs., had little difficulty in beating R. H. Farrell (Whangarei), list. 91bs. Maunsell secured a fall in the first round with a body press, and held the advantage in the second. In the final round. Farrell was disqualified for punching.

K. Maunsell (Kalkohe) list. 81b5.,«. defeated T. Hollow (Whangarei), list. 131b5., by one fall, secured in the third round with a press and head and armlock. It was a hard fought bout, with little between the pair.

I. Boyd, lOst. 21bs., and L. North, 9st. lOlbs., wrestled three good rounds to a draw, no falls being registered.
