London Rail Stations Paralysed By Fire
[lndependent Cable Service.l LONDON, July 20. Two of London’s biggest stations, Charing Cross and London Bridge, were paralysed last evening when flames from a fire which destroyed half of the Borough Market spread to the Southern Railway’s main electric cables near London ridge. Cracks were later discovered in the trie cables near London Bridge. A thousand passengers were stranded between 11 p.m. and 12.35 a.m., when the current was restored. The flames at one stage threatened Southwark Cathedral. Throe hundred firemen fought the outbreak.
