Licensing Authority Not Subject to Instruction

“No carriers’ association has instructed or intimidated me in connection with any application for a transport license,’’ ' said Mr E. J. Phelan, No. 1 Licensing Authority, in the Whangarei Courthouse on Wednesday. Mr. Phelan was referring to a published statement ' made by Mr J. S. Wood, manager of the Hikurangi Dairy Co., Ltd., at the annual meeting of the company. Mr Wood was reported to have said that the carriers’ associations wore dictating the policy of the authority and that dairy companies which were not members of associations had been refused licenses. “People make these wild statements with nothing to back them up,” said the authority.
