Kaikohe’s Position re Centennial
ISpeciat to “Northern Advocate”] KAIKOHE, This Day.
> There appears to be a considerable . amount of misunderstanding in Kaikohe in connection with Centennial matters. I This fact was made perfectly clear ; at a meeting of members of the Kai- > kohe Centennial Committee on Wednesday night. Some time ago a public meeting decided to form a local committee of representatives from the local sporting and social organisations. Mr H. Ingram was made convener, and, after obtaining a list of the delegates from the various organisations, he set about calling a meeting. Three meetings were called, and the last, which was held on Wednesday night, was attended by only five people, the former meetings failing to receive any response. “A number of local organisations appear to have lost all interest in the Centennial committee now that the
I hall scheme has been declined by the National Council,” Mr Ingram said. £lO4 First Claim. “They do not seem to realise that the town and committee’s first job is not to worry about local memorials, but to find ways and means oi' raising the quota of £lO4, which this town has to pay towards the general Bay executive funds,” he said. The meeting was of the opinion that nothing definite could be done until all the local organisations were represented on the committee. Mr H. Wright then moved that Mr C. Dickeson and Mr W. Freer interview officials and members of the local sporting organisations, and outline the details of the town’s Centennial commitment. The organisations represented at the meeting were the Women’s Institute (Mrs Wadsworth), the Kaikohe Library Committee (Mr Ingram), the Tennis Club (Mr Wright), the Rugby Club (Mr Dickeson). and the Athletic Club (Mr Freer).
